The Secret to Success: 4 Steps To Getting C.A.S.T.

Do  you know how powerful you are?  Really?  Do you know that whatever you can conceive as true, you can bring into being?

But here’s the catch:  You don’t get what you want. you get what you believe, or as Wayne Dyer simply states, “When you believe it, you will see it.”

So, if you’ve been taking lots of action to achieve your goals + not getting the results you desire, odds are, at a deep subconscious level, what you believe to be true about yourself + your dreams being realized needs to shift.  When your beliefs change, so do your actions + ultimately so do your results.

“Your mental visualization will be accepted by your subconscious mind.  If you dwell on obstacles, delays + difficulties, your subconscious mind responds accordingly, and you block your own good.”
~ Joseph Murphy (The Power of the Subconscious Mind)

So the next time you feel frustrated that what you want is taking too long to get here, remember this:

When was the last time you ASKED for what you wanted?
So many actors spend their time complaining about what isn’t happening instead of taking action to create what they say they want.

Do you ever dim your light so those around you won’t feel threatened?  Do you ever make “less” of booking a job or doing something fabulous so you don’t shine too brightly or seem boastful?  I have.

Maybe it’s a “nice-girl-from-the-midwest” thing, but it never leaves anyone feeling good…not me, not them.  Once I realized that “dimming my light” was not helping anyone else shine brighter or feel better, I realized it was just a learned behavior that I could undo.  And I did!

5 Ways To Be Free + Brave In Every Audition

On the heels of  the USA’s 4th of July holiday, I feel so lucky to live, as our “Star Spangled Banner” song lyrics states: “in the land of the free + the home of the brave.”

I’ve been thinking alot about these two words lately, and what it means to be free + brave.

These two powerful words seem to also apply to being an actor.  This career path lends itself to having a free schedule, one that changes daily that can leave you with either too much free time or feeling a deep sense of freedom, joy + creativity, depending on how self-motivated you are +  what you do to stay inspired + growing.   Then, to put yourself out there, day after day + face rejection of all kinds, definitely makes pursuing an acting career a brave choice.  How free + brave do you feel?

Well, in the audition room, the more free + brave you can be, the more likely you are to be remembered, called back + hired for the job.

Ultimately,

Free+Brave

When you are concerned about what everyone else thinks, odds are your actions won’t be coming from a place of feeling free + brave.  Once you let that go, you will find more peace + creativity in your life + your acting work.

As C+ C Music Factory says: “Free your mind + the rest will follow.”

How To Become The Happiest Actor You Know

There are 2 important questions you need to ask yourself:

1) How happy are you right now?
Do you know that everything you want is because you think you’ll be happier once you have it.  Every role, every possession, every relationship, every award, every accolade.

2) How much fun are you having on your journey as an actor?
Many actors who are unhappy today say they’ll just be happy when they “are on a series, book the job, or make a million dollars,” yet we’ve seen so many examples of actors with tons of success who are still miserable.

Why? Because you can’t have a happy ending to an unhappy journey.   You’ve got to find ways to get happy now no matter what is going on in your career or life.
HappinessIsAnInsideJob

Happiness is an inside job. You don’t have to wait for your circumstances to change to find joy, but instead try changing where you are focusing your attention.

“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” –Dr. Wayne Dyer

Here are 7 habits to becoming the happiest actor you know:

The Answer To Your Question: Should I Leave Town?

Whenever I’m debating on doing something fun or taking a trip, I’m often reminded of my late father’s wise words: DO IT NOW.

For the actor, I’ll add…

DoItNow

Mark Twain summed it up pretty well too:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbor.  Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore. Dream. Discover”

So, is there something you long to do or somewhere you’d like to go that you are putting off because….

  • you could get cast in something
  • you don’t want to miss out on anything
  • you don’t have anyone to go wtih
  • you tell yourself you can’t afford it

All of these reasons may feel very true to you, but they are (more…)

What To Do When You Don’t Get The Part

I’ve been there.  I’ve auditioned for roles that have gone to someone younger, to someone older, to a more well-known actor, to an actor you’ve never heard of, to a blonde, to a brunette, to a guy, to another ethnicity, you name it, I’ve experienced it.    I’ve been released from “avails” + have seen lucrative campaigns come to an end.

Yes, an acting career is like a marathon-length rollercoaster ride.

The key is that every single time I’ve used what other actors might deem as a setback or a failure, to fuel me.

Ultimately, I’ve used each experience (after the initial shock is over!) to deepen my trust in my own future, to believe that good always finds me, to lift myself up + to keep going. (Some days are easier than others, of course.)

But when I do this, things have always surprised me in the most miraculous ways and none of it was what I would have planned.

Ultimately, you have to….

TrustInTheFuturYoue
Of course the work of doing this is an inside job.  This internal work is part of your work as an actor. The ability to do this is what will get you to where you want to go.

So, now that we are 6 months into the year and you may have experienced some surprises +  some “setbacks”, dig deeper than ever before and really …. (more…)
