How To Predict Your Future: 3 Questions Every Actor Should Ask

How to predict your future?

You can predict your own future by looking at 3 areas:

  1. The thoughts you are thinking…
  2. The words you are speaking…
  3. The actions you are taking…

Today.

Who you are being + what you are doing in those three areas today will directly effect what shows up in your life tomorrow.

So, if you want a future filled with success, abundance, joy + fulfilling work, here are 3 questions every actor should ask:

  1. Are my thoughts filled with love + joy or doubt + worry?
  2. Am I speaking about what is working or complaining about what isn’t working?
  3. Am I taking actions that stretch me or that keep me in my comfort zone?

The answer to these three questions will guide you to know where you can course correct.

Keep in mind, it’s not about being perfect, staying in a lotus pose all day or only being joyful.

It’s about being aware of what you are focused upon + knowing how to witness it, allow it + shift it when it feels right.

Some days are easier than others to feel good about yourself + where you are in your life + your career.

But what if you could unconditionally love yourself for the next 30 days?  What if you simply chose to make self-love a daily practice?

As one of my favorite redheads wisely sadvised:
LoveYourselfFirst

That means you would show yourself love + appreciation whether or not you… (more…)

How To Get To The Next Level In Your Acting Career

My wish for you is that you find the success that you are seeking, but here’s one important thing to know.

YouGetWhatYouBelieve

In other words, if you’ve been wanting to get to the next level in your career + it is just not happening, there is usually one big reason….you have a limiting belief that is keeping it from showing up.

I know it would be easier to blame your agent, a casting director, this business, the economy or the traffic for why you are not where you want to be, but, it is, in fact, an inside job.

That also means, you have the power to change it.

Here’s how to get to the next level in your acting career: (more…)

How To Make Room For Money To Flow: 9 Actions For Actors

To make room for money to flow to you, there must be space to receive it, both literally + energetically.

Two areas where too much clutter can stop the flow of money into your life are…

  1. Your wallet or purse.
  2. Your mind.

Let’s deal with the tangible one first.

Your wallet or purse serves as a literal home + metaphorical spiritual temple for your money.  Are you treating it as such?

What does your wallet or purse look like?   Is it cluttered with old receipts, crumpled bills + business cards of people you never intend to contact?  Is it crammed with expired SAG/AFTRA cards or loyalty cards for stores you rarely visit?

Is there room for more money to flow to you?  Is it inviting?  Do you enjoy going into it?  Or do you get frustrated every time you go spend your money?

MoneyIsEnergy

Too much stuff in our wallets can actually create an energetic blockage to receiving more money.  We must create the space first.

Here are 9 actions you can take today to make room for money to flow: (more…)

15 Habits That Will Increase Your Acting Success

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day here in the United States, I have to share a quick story (and then I’ll reveal the 15 Habits That Will Increase Your Acting Success.)

Yesterday, Ray Charles’ Georgia On My Mind was playing on my Pandora playlist.  My 6-year-old was coloring at the kitchen table and asked, “Mommy, is this Martin Luther King singing?”  Fascinated by his question, I asked, “What made you wonder that, honey?”  My son replied, “Well, he’s singing about the peace he finds, and that’s what Martin Luther King was all about…peace.

It was a moment that took my breath away: My kindergartner knowing of the peace that MLK Jr. was seeking and me letting my son know this amazing leader did it all with love and not hate.

I honor Martin Luther King Jr. today as his brightly lit legacy continues to remind us all to stick with love:

“I have decided to stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear.”
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Speaking of love, hopefully you love being an actor.  If you ever feel at a loss for what to do next, this week’s post will shine a light on 15 Habits That Will Increase Your Acting Success.

Since our destiny is created by our habits, and our habits are created by our choices, it really all comes down to the habits +  choices we are making in our own lives + careers daily that will effect our success in the long run.

” Many of life’s circumstances are created by three basic choices:
the disciplines you choose to keep,
the people you choose to be with,
and the laws you choose to obey.”
~ Charles Millhuff

So, this is a great time to ask yourself 3 important questions.

  1. Are the disciplines you choose to keep helping or harming you?
  2. Do you surround yourself with people who uplift you or who put you down?
  3. What habits do you choose consistently and how do they effect your  success + happiness? (I believe in both)

Many people are focused on all they are going to DO this year.  List of goals, list of tasks, list of changes they want to make.

But in the midst of your goal-planning, what if you asked yourself how you most want to FEEL this year + allowed that to be your standard of success?

Why Every Actor Should Take A Break From Improving Themselves

I sincerely hope you take the time this holiday season to rest, relax + renew your mind, body + soul.

I’ve always been a do-er, and in the past, whenever there was any down time, I’d find ways to fill it by improving my home, improving my workout, or learning new ways to improve myself.  Resting + relaxing often felt unproductive.

Now, I realize how giving your body a break from doing + your mind a break from trying to achieve, improve or figure things out, is exactly what your soul needs.

This time of year, I think every actor should take a break from improving themselves.  As an artist, there will always be room for improvement.  Better training. Better headshots. Better auditions.  And when you get the job, it’s easy to get in the headspace of wanting to do a better take, have a better storyline or deliver a better overall performance.

When you give yourself permission to take a break from improving yourself, especially as an artist, you’re expressing deep self-love + acknowledging your divine perfection, right here + now.

When you take the to time rest + relax, you also end up deepening a sense of trust in your life.  You may find yourself breathing deeper, feeling calmer + simply enjoying the present moment more.

In fact, napping is a perfect way to realign your energy, not only physically, but mentally, because when you slumber, all resistant thought ceases.

(I am actually proud to report, I took a 3 hour nap yesterday.  Every cell in my body needed it + I felt more clarity + more joyful when I awoke.)

So, if your holiday schedule is packed, try making an appointment with yourself to do something relaxing that has nothing to do with your acting career, this business, getting ahead or improving yourself or your craft in any way.

When you make an appointment in your calendar, it will make it easier to stick to your own self-care.  Or as we say around my busy home, “If it’s not scheduled, it’s not real.”

As a mom, wife, actress + business owner, I have finally learned that the more I fill myself up first, in loving ways, the more love I have to give others.  And there’s nothing to improve there….except maybe taking more time to do it!

The #1 Question Every Actor Should Ask In December

As the year comes to a close, I love taking the time to “take inventory” on the past 12 months.

The challenge can be to do this from a soul-connected place of love vs. an ego-connected place of fear + judgment.

Your ego wants to know the answer to these two questions:
How many jobs have you booked and how much money have you made?

Your soul wants to know the answer to these two questions:
How have you loved and who you have effected?

3 Steps To Honoring Your Emotions During The Holidays

The holiday season can bring up a lot of emotions.

So often, we get preoccupied with our long to-do lists + family obligations, that before we know it, we feel overwhelmed, run-down or even get sick.

The radio may tell us “it’s the most wonderful time of the year,” but when we have sadness, anger, frustration or other emotions that we don’t take the time to express, experience and move through to completion, they tend to get stuck in the body.

Years ago, I faced debilitating back pain after a snowboarding incident.  When the pain kept recurring, a friend gave me a book that changed my life.

In his fascinating book, Healing Back Pain, Dr. Sarno talks about the mind’s effort to repress emotions. According to Dr. Sarno, the mind tricks you into not facing repressed emotions by making you focus on pain in the body.

In other words, most humans would rather tend to their physical pain than deal with their emotional pain. That made sense to me, as I was spending most of my time + energy tending to my physical condition.

Once I allowed myself to release the emotional pain that I had been suppressing at that time, there was no need for the physical pain, and it literally disappeared overnight.  I was amazed.

Now, whenever I begin to feel sick or feel stress mounting in my body, I always try to do some emotional release work.  (This doesn’t discount seeing a doctor when you have acute or chronic pain)
