    I’m so glad last week’s post helped so many of you turn the “should do’s” into “could do’s” and serve to let go of the guilt or shame of “not being more productive.”

    This theme (and your response to it) got me thinking about how so much of our worth + value has been tied up for so long in what we produce, what we do, and what we accomplish.

    Many of us have spent years hustling, and being “busy doing more” to show ourselves (and anyone we think might be watching) that we are of value.

    Even in our world of “show-business,” it really is all about show.  When you book a job, it seems the minute you wrap, everyone wants to know, what’s next?  What do you have to “show” for yourself?

    But now that the world has essentially “stopped all the doing,” and our industry is on a global pause, it’s given each of us a time to re-evaluate how we perceive ourselves + even redefine what success truly means.

    Does success mean being productive to the point of burnout + overwhelm?
    Does success mean splitting your energy in a million different ways?
    Does success mean hustling + being everything to everyone?

    What if you used this time to think about where you were putting your energy, how it was (or wasn’t) serving you + how you can reshape your life moving forward.

    And for those of you who love a good to-do list, I thought I’d put one together for your well-being.

    When you align with the inner knowing that you don’t have to be productive to be of value, you can then choose activities, people + projects that light you up, instead of using any of it to prove your worthiness.

    How To Let Go Of The Guilt Of Not “Being More Productive” (During A Global Pandemic)

    Have you been bombarded with “how to be more productive” suggestions lately, while feeling guilty that you’re still in your pajamas at noon?
    Have you been noticing all of the free opportunities lately, while simultaneously feeling overwhelmed on where to begin?

    You’re not alone, and today I want to address it all from a different perspective.

    Not the one that shames you into being busy doing more, but the one that invites you to step back + reframe it all from a place of freedom, choice, and love.

    I know a lot of actors who are feeling very frustrated by all they feel they should be doing right now.

    Does this look like your list of “should do’s” from the last few weeks?

    I should submit to every online open casting call.
    I should attend every free Zoom call for actors.
    I should create more content for social media.
    I should comment more on social media.
    I should practice a new monologue.
    I should hone my self-tape skills.
    I should work on 5 new accents.
    I should update my marketing.
    I should be more productive.
    I should start a podcast.
    I should workout daily.
    I should take a nap.

    Who wouldn’t feel overwhelmed?

    When you are telling yourself what you “should-do,” and it feels heavy, that’s a great indication that the action is coming from a place of fear and lack.

    Ultimately, you are telling yourself that if you don’t do the things on your “should-do” list, you’re not making the most of your “quarantine time.”

    This is a lie the ego wants you to believe.

    When your action comes from an energy of fear, lack and self-doubt it will never result in success (during a global pandemic or anytime!)

    Instead, this week, I invite you to replace any should with could, and see what happens?

    When you reframe it in this way, then every idea becomes an invitation that you can choose to decline or accept, based on what feels good to you in the moment.

    My Milestone Birthday (Gifts For You…..)

    I celebrated a milestone birthday yesterday. (Yes, turning 30 is amazing! I mean 40. I mean 50!) What?

    I feel 28 on the inside (and I rollerblade like I was 18), but as my late mother used to wisely tell me, at whatever age I was turning…”one day, you’ll wish you were this age.” So true.

    So, today, I’m enjoying celebrating 5 decades on the planet + all I have learned, how I have grown, and who I have become along the way.

    I’m also celebrating all of the love in my life, from my amazing readers like you, to my courageous students, to my closest friends and cherished family.

    My husband put together a virtual party on Zoom for me this weekend + I was overcome with emotion seeing my beautiful friends, hearing their stories, well-wishes and toasts and simply feeling all of the love + connection.

    It made me realize what really matters at the end of the day. It’s not the credits, the bookings or the awards.

    It’s the love that flows from your heart to another person + back to you and how you make a difference in each other’s lives.

    The global Coronavirus pandemic has ignited fear + uncertainty in the world, and I’m sure it is directly affecting your life right at this very moment in some way.

    I’ve come to realize that in each moment throughout my day, I have a choice.

    I get to choose peace or panic.  And so do you.

    So take a deep breath in + exhale + affirm this with me….In this moment, I choose peace.

    The 2 Biggest Factors That Keep You From Your Dreams

    The two biggest factors that keep you from your dreams might actually surprise you.

    They are…needing + wanting.

    The definitions of want + need actually imply a lack of something deemed necessary, and are at the opposite energetic spectrum of feeling fulfilled + satisfied.

    So, it might be time to take a closer look at what you are “needing + wanting” and ask yourself “Why does this matter so much to me?”

    If you want to get somewhere in your career because you need it to define:

    • your value
    • your worth
    • your importance
    • or that you “really matter…”

    Then what you want will continue to elude you.  Why?

    This kind of thinking actually puts you in a state of lack – needing some outer circumstance to give you the abundance you seek.

    The reality is that it actually works the other way around.
