Memorial Day in the United States, is a day to remember the sacrifices that brave men + woman made to bring freedom to this country.
Growing up as the daughter of a Navy veteran, I was taught to have immense gratitude for the freedoms that we so easily take for granted.
My late father was a World War II Air-Sea Rescue pilot who helped to save those who were shot down in the Pacific Ocean. He was a hero to many, and especially to me. I lost him when I was 27.
When I volunteer in my son’s kindergarten class, I can barely get through The Pledge Of Allegiance without tearing up. Seeing a group of 5-year-olds embody joy, love and freedom, so purely, gives me hope for our future.
Last month I was asked to be the guest of honor and guest speaker at a charity event, back in my hometown of Northbrook, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. (Basically where all the John Hughes movies were filmed.)
They wanted me to talk about how I went from performing in the musicals, plays, variety shows + choirs at Glenbrook South High School to becoming an established actress in Hollywood.
The more I thought about my journey from performing back high school to now having over 75 tv + film credits, I realized that the running theme along the way, was that I simply…kept going.
I kept going in the face of obstacles.
I kept going in the face of uncertainty.
I kept doing the things that scared me the most.
Ultimately, my success has come from mastering the fine art of dealing with failure, rejection + disappointment.
That is the real key to success.
There isn’t one successful person on the planet who hasn’t failed, been rejected or felt disappointment. It’s whether you allow it to (more…)
Ever find yourself feeling elated, excited + enthusiastic about life and then the next week find yourself feeling disappointed, sad or just crying in a heap?
This was me for the first 2 weeks of May…riding high and then feeling really low.
The highs are easy, right?
But, when the low point came, I found myself saying things like “You know that feeling bad isn’t helping. You have a great life. Snap out of it. What’s your problem?”
Then, I finally allowed myself to just not feel good, to lay on the couch with my dog and simply sob for all kinds of reasons and for no reason at all (while telling him he has it all figured out – after all, “dog” is “god” backwards + that’s gotta mean something!)
I allowed myself to embrace the situation as it was, to feel whatever it was I was feeling without telling myself I should feel better or that I should be doing something else (something other than sobbing with my dog while my sweet husband offered his support.)
And ya know what? I highly recommend it.
What I came to discover is that the way “out” of those disappointing, frustrating + sad moments is to go fully through them.
The best way to handle it all is to allow yourself to come unhinged + give yourself permission to not have to “get it together” on demand.
What do most of us do when we don’t want to deal with uncomfortable feelings?
We suppress them. We run from them. We distract ourselves. We check email. Check Facebook. Check Instagram. Check Twitter. Check Facebook Again. We scroll + comment. We rant + rave. We get more frustrated.
Or we distract ourselves in other ways. Some use eating, smoking, drinking. gambling, shopping, blaming, or shaming, all in a massive effort to not feel.
It’s a vicious cycle that may bring instant or temporary relief, but will never provide any long term gain.
Why? All of these activities get us to check out + tune out from what’s really going on.
What if, this week, instead of tuning out to what’s bothering you, you tuned in?
Instead of running from fear or sadness, or trying to suppress shame or disappointment, what if you embraced it + allowed it to be heard.
Here’s what you would d discover….
What if any time you experienced uncomfortable feelings (more…)
When you go into an audition, share your vulnerability, give it everything you’ve got + don’t get the part, it can be disappointing
When you put your heart and soul into it + think that one audition is the key to the kingdom and you don’t get it, it can be devastating.
You may think, “That was my big shot. I missed my boat. That was gonna change everything.”
And then what happens? When we are faced with this kind of rejection over and over, our ego focuses too critically on all the ways we have lost. Judging ourselves as wrong, or bad, or not good enough, which can leave us feeling disappointed, dejected and sometimes hopeless.
Your ego may try to convince you that you need to change something or fix something about you to be more “right” the next time (and it’s not to say we can’t learn from each experience, because there is always space for that), but best-selling author + psychologist Dr. Robert Holden says…
Isn’t that powerful? “No amount of self-improvement can make up for a lack of self-acceptance.”
So the real learning, in order to release rejection and let go of disappointment, comes from (more…)
Happy Spring! I love this time of year. I spent all day yesterday, in the garden planting succulents.
And I got to thinking about what makes a succulent life + how to enjoying real prosperity in all areas.
At the root (no “planting pun intended”) of inviting in unlimited prosperity in all areas of our lives, is giving ourselves permission to be prosperous. We must feel that it’s not only okay to have wealth, success, fulfillment + joy, but that it’s our birthright, no matter what we were taught growing up.
We must understand at a deep level, that our desire for a prosperous life, won’t somehow take anything away from anyone else.
The key, though, is not waiting for prosperity to arrive at your doorstep, in order to feel prosperous. When you find ways to feel prosperous now, without even needing to see evidence of it, you will shift your experience. The more prosperous you can feel, the more expectant you become, and the more your experience begins to match it.
Yes. What we think, we create. What we feel, we attract. What we imagine, we become.
Scientific research reveals that the subconscious mind accepts (more…)
We all know the feeling of being unstoppable? Those days when you get out of bed before your alarm rings, finish an intense workout, have some stranger smile at you in the grocery store and get a call saying you booked the job. Yeah, those are really good kinds of days, right?
But how do you feel unstoppable when you don’t book the job, no one looks your way + you want to pull the covers over and sleep in?
Well, some days, sleeping in might be just the thing you need.
But if, on most days, you’re waiting to book a job to start feeling unstoppable, you’re going to have a lot of not-so-great days.
Here’s my advice:
Here are 3 ways to start feeling unstoppable… (more…)
YOUR CREATION IS...VERY POWERFUL, IT CALMED ME, PREPARED ME & FOCUSED ME + I BOOKED JOBS.
"Since I began using your guided meditations I have now, in only a few months, booked up an entire year of work. Your creation is truly a blessing + very powerful. Before every audition I have done recently I have listened to at least 3 of your tracks and it has calmed me, prepared me and focused me."
I BOOKED THE JOB! LISTENING TO CREATING POWERFUL AUDITIONS MADE A DIFFERENCE!
"Been listening to your "Creating Powerful Auditions" mp3 daily since purchasing about a week ago. Listened to it on the way to an audition...took a few moments before leaving my car to do the visualizations. I walked into the audition room feeling totally empowered, feeling light. I booked the job. I feel your album made a difference. Thank you, Wendy."
I BOOKED TWO ACTING GIGS IN THE SAME WEEK BECAUSE I HAD HER CD ON REPEAT!
"I listen to Wendy's guided meditations pretty much every chance I get. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have her amazing voice in my ear keeping me empowered, inspired + in the right mental space to persevere day in and day out. I booked two acting gigs in the same week because I had Wendy's Creating Powerful Auditions album on repeat. Thank you WENDY for your positivity + light!"
I'VE TURNED A SLOW STREAK INTO A BOOKING STREAK AND I FEEL REALLY EMPOWERED.
"Wendy is so generous with her knowledge and understanding of the deeper, inside work that goes into living a healthy, happy, well balanced actor life. Her daily inspirations mean so much to me...and I'm grateful for the custom guided meditation she wrote for me. I've turned a slow streak into a booking streak & I feel really empowered."

SINCE LISTENING TO YOUR GUIDED MEDITATIONS, I BOOKED 2 FEATURE FILMS
"I bought Creating Powerful Auditions and I listen to it every morning. "Empowering Myself" is my absolute favorite meditation, sometimes I put it on repeat until I fully and truly feel every declaration. Since I've been listening to your guided meditations I booked my first feature film + also recently booked the lead role in my first horror film. Thank you for coming into my life!”
YOUR AFFIRMATIONS ALLOWED ME TO STEP OUT OF THE FEAR AND BE PRESENT IN THE ROOM.
"I just returned from an audition after listening to your guided meditations. Your affirmations allowed me to step out of the fear and be present in the room. As I waited for my audition I envisioned the session being successful and feeling empowered afterward. And it was and I did."
