I’m flying home today from an amazing weekend in Vancouver + my heart is filled with so much gratitude.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday in the US this week, I want to give thanks for you, my friend.
I am so thankful for the space you grant me each + every week in your email inbox.
To be able to inspire, uplift + empower other artists all over the world, has truly been a gift in my life. Thank you.
Because of you, I am inspired to keep going, to keep writing each week, even when I’m tired, even when it’s late, my kids are asleep and I am staring at a blank screen.
Because of you, I have learned that serving + helping others fuels my soul.
Because of you, I have learned that what you give out comes back to you in wonderful ways.
Special Note: Comp tickets for my Live Masterclasses are now available for Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and we’ve just added London, all in January!
I’ve been practicing daily gratitude this month, and not only do I feel better, but it’s definitely opened up a doorway for more good things to come to me easily + effortlessly.
I invite you to do the same, beginning right now.
The key for me has been not doing so to “make something happen,” but instead because it simply feels good to focus on the good.
And the extra benefit is that I’m also training my brain to criticize less, find fault less + complain less.
And what has been happening? I’ve had new bookings, been invited to be a podcast guest on one of my favorite shows, and last week, I became a GIF!
If you haven’t heard, I’m back for Season 3 of Atypical, which I’m thrilled report, was the #1 binge-watched show on Netflix last week. (Our show beat “Friends,” which took 2nd place).
This role (that started out as a few short scenes in Season 1), has now turned into a three season recurring role, with multiple episodes, fun story lines, and lots of matching sweater sets. (Can you tell I love playing the uptight but well-intentioned, Kathy, always going head-to-head with Jennifer Jason Leigh?)
I couldn’t be more grateful to be part of a show that promotes inclusion, spreads autism awareness, and is filled with laughs, love + compassion.
I just got back from an amazing family vacation to Riviera Maya.
I did all kinds of things on my bucket list, from swimming with dolphins, to zip lining into the Caribbean and snorkeling in Cozumel.
I also faced some fears head on.
It took me a few days to go down the steep blue water slide that was on the resort property where we were staying.
I’m normally scared of heights, but as I was trying to encourage my oldest son to face his fears, I had to walk my own talk.
Or in this case…go down the steep blue slide first.
And what we both learned is that, well, most fears are all in our minds and if we just do the thing that scares us, we’ll find out we can do way more than we think.
In fact, once we both took action and just went for it, we couldn’t stop, it was so much fun. (Same went for the zipline).
In the midst of enjoying precious moments like this..
I heard my late father’s wise words: Take the trip. Do it now. Don’t wait.
Or as Mark Twain wisely once said:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
I had a hard time going anywhere in my 20’s, (more…)
My heart is heavy today, from all the fear and divisiveness that has been ignited in our country + the senseless acts of violence that follow.
I know that hate is taught, since we are all born with only love in our hearts, and my wish is that as each of us acts from a place of love, in all our interactions throughout the day and that the consciousness of love is expanded as a response.
I wrote this post on Friday, and want to share it today since I know we all have to get up again on Monday and make the most of our lives.
I hope it helps you.
So now that the year is half over, would you like to make the second half of 2019 even better than the first half?
If you set a goal in January + haven’t come close to achieving it, here’s why + how to change it.
So often we have the best intentions + just before we go to take action, we allow fear to stop us.
We rethink, review, + even remind ourselves of all of the reasons, it might not work.
Or we procrastinate + we put off what we know would be good for us, until another day.
From eating right, to exercising, to reaching out to someone, to diving into a creative project, often we associate more pain with actually doing a task, then the pleasure we will feel once it’s finished.
This is all rooted in small thinking from the lower mind, which is always ego-based + born out of fear or judgment.
Your ego doesn’t want you to change your lifestyle, test the waters, move outside of your comfort zone + alter anything on any level.
But the higher mind is rooted in love.
The higher mind is rooted in expansion.
The higher mind is limitless + sees the big picture long before you do.
So, maybe it’s time to ask yourself? Am I operating from a place of love or fear?
Most people don’t know how to operate from the higher mind, which is always accessible to you + done easily through guided meditation.
The expanded mind, your highest self, not only knows what is possible for you, but planted the idea in the first place to call you forward, to expand you and to invite you to where you want to go.
You can get to where you want to go, but it requires (more…)
With modern technology at your fingertips all day long + requests coming at you from all angles, giving yourself permission to pause, to take a break, as well as not check social media (or email) one more time can be challenging.
Our brains inherently want to remain active, in charge, and not relinquish control.
But when we choose to pause, we not only give our brains a rest, but we are also tuning into the higher mind.
Pausing can feel like we’re not accomplishing anything,
But actually, in our pause, our reset, we return to aligning with our highest self.
It is there that we gain clarity + inspiration + end up taking much less action to accomplish our desired outcome.
If you’re unsure about how to give yourself permission to pause, I’ve created an easy to remember acronym for the word P.A.U.S.E. to help you do just that.
So the next time you find yourself comparing + despairing on social media or feeling overwhelmed by all you have to do, (more…)
I’m on an out-of-town getaway with my husband for our 12 year anniversary.
We were married on 07.14.07, and as I reflect on the amazing years of marriage we’ve enjoyed so far, I thought it would be fitting to share some of my favorite post about love, life, letting go + the divine timing of it all.
I hope these articles help you to know that wherever you are in your life right now, you are exactly where you need to be and you can get to where you want to go (and beyond). (more…)
As I was thinking of all the freedoms I am so blessed to enjoy in this country (including connecting with actors all over the world!), I ran across this quote from Steven Covey…
What an amazing reminder that we all possess the natural abilities of (more…)
Three years ago, I went in for one audition for a “possible recurring role” on Atypical.
I remember vividly, sitting in the waiting room, filled with actors of all different types and ages. All reading for the same role.
I could have easily told myself that “they’d never book me because I’m too ________ (young, old, tall, quirky, etc).” Or fill in the blank with whatever you tell yourself in these situations.
But instead, I chose to focus on simply bringing my truth into the room.
The character, Kathy, was described as “the uptight, but well-intentioned leader of the autism parent support group + a friend of Jennifer Jason Leigh’s.”
I found the place in me that understood what this meant. No judgment. Just truth.
My agent at the time actually thought I should pass on the role because he thought it might not turn into anything + that it wasn’t big enough.
But I felt connected to this character on many levels, even though the scenes in Season 1 were short + sweet.
But the scenes were funny, Kathy had a strong point of view + I could see her becoming part of the fabric of this show.
I also had never been into this casting office, so I figured why not simply go in + do what I do + leave?
I’m glad I trusted my instincts.
Today, Emmy-nomination round voting closes (tonight at 10pm PST), and to be up For Your Emmy® Consideration as “Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series” for my work on Atypical, is a dream come true.
I hope my story inspires you go into this week believing in yourself + knowing that anything is possible,
My best audition tips:
1. Trust your instincts.
2. Share your truth.
3. Shine your light.
4. Leave.
If I had told myself a different story in the waiting room, if I had listened to my agent who didn’t think the role was big enough and if I had tried to figure out what “they” were looking for….it definitely wouldn’t have helped me book the role.
It’s not always easy to quiet the inner critic or other people’s opinions, but you’ll find that when you do, what’s left is your intuition and it always knows the way.
Do you scroll through email and social media before you even get out of bed? It’s not uncommon, but it’s also not helping you to be productive.
When your morning habit is to tune into what everyone else is doing, needing and wanting, you lose the valuable connection with your own inner knowing.
This connection is very powerful + will guide you throughout your day, but it’s not found by scrolling through Instagram.
Social media will most likely lead you to comparing and despairing. (Not ideal for motivating yourself to take action, first thing in the morning.)
Since your life is created by your habits, to wire yourself for success, you must(more…)

I BOOKED TWO ACTING GIGS IN THE SAME WEEK BECAUSE I HAD HER CD ON REPEAT!

I booked two acting gigs in the same week because I had Wendy's Creating Powerful Auditions album on repeat. Thank you WENDY for your positivity + light!"
YOUR AFFIRMATIONS ALLOWED ME TO STEP OUT OF THE FEAR AND BE PRESENT IN THE ROOM.
"I just returned from an audition after listening to your guided meditations. Your affirmations allowed me to step out of the fear and be present in the room. As I waited for my audition I envisioned the session being successful and feeling empowered afterward. And it was and I did."
