What To Do If You Have The Post-Oscar Blues

If you watched the Oscars last night, and it left you feeling inspired + hopeful for the possibilities ahead for you – awesome.

But if you turned off the TV + went to bed wondering…

  • Will it ever happen for me?
  • What do I do to get to where I want to go?
  • How will I ever achieve my biggest dreams?

Here’s what you need to know…

Yep, the only way to get to where you want to go (no matter where that is) is to first make peace with where you are.

So, if you woke up today feeling blue about your career, guess what?

You simply added meaning to an event.  You watched an awards show (an event) and made the fact that you aren’t there indicate that you have somehow failed as an actor (meaning).  And now you feel horrible.

Here’s what that looks like:

The Oscars (event)
+ You have failed as an actor (meaning)
= You feel miserable (current outcome)

Instead, you can take the same event, The Oscars, add no meaning, and what would you have?

Just the event.   The Oscars + no meaning = The Oscars.   It’s simply an event.   That’s it.

I’m hoping that realization helps you to make peace with wherever you are today, because, that really is the key to getting to where you want to go.

So make your intention this week to see how many events or experiences you can not add meaning to + notice how much more peaceful you feel.  Experiences like the audition, the callback or the job you didn’t book.

Here’s to a week of making peace with where you are, while you add no meaning to certain events along the way.

Let me know in the comments below what event you plan on not adding meaning to?  Can’t wait to hear.

Love + Gratitude,

Thanks again Wendy for keeping me a part of your Monday inspiration! Well said! After all entertainment and a career as such – in the truest sense isn’t about receiving accolades – but more importantly about doing the work- providing a service of entertaining – diverting- as the definition of the word itself means…..although accolades are nice- and kinda sorta give added validation to what for what one has done- but in an ideal world or sense ought not to be the destination.Rather the journey itself ought to be the cause du celebre’!
    in my poor French!
