I auditioned for a fun role on “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” a week ago, Thursday, and when I didn’t hear anything by Friday, since these things cast fast, I figured I didn’t get it.
I let it go. I honestly didn’t really think about it. I didn’t ruin my weekend lamenting or thinking “where’s mine, woe is me or why didn’t I book that?” (which, of course, we all do from time to time.)
And I realized…
In fact, I turned my attention to the present moment + found myself feeling good about what was right in front of me.
How exactly did I let go + let in my success? I found joy all weekend long in…
- Cheering on my 6-year-old son at his t-ball game.
- Seeing “Chicago” on a date night with my husband.
- Watching my 3-year-old ride a mini go-kart for the first time at a carnival.
- Getting the news that another Spotlight member booked another job.
- Writing last week’s blog post.
- Loving the miracles that are already in my life.
On Monday morning, while totally engaged in having fun with my 3-year-old, my agent called and said, “You’re first choice on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia + it works tomorrow, are you available?”
“Sure,” I said! That afternoon, I went to a fitting at FOX and the next day, I was enjoying moments like this…
Needless to say, I had an amazing time filming this fun show. And was warmly welcomed by everyone in the cast, including the very funny + super sweet, Danny Devito
Now, it doesn’t mean that just because you enjoy your weekend, you’ll book the job. But I am here to tell you that ruining your weekend (or week, or month) with self-defeating thoughts because you didn’t get the news you wanted, actually pushes away the good feelings you want the job to bring to you.
I know that even if I hadn’t booked the job, something else would have come up for me last week, due to the fact that my daily practice lately has been to simply find ways of feeling good now.
When I looked deeper, the fun I was having with my family last weekend + the fun I was now having on the set – was the exact same energy, just different circumstances.
And the irony of it all, one of the regulars said to Danny DeVito, “Let’s do this, I wanna get home + see my kids.”
In that moment, I realized the grass really is always greener. And when I got home, I made certain to roll around in mine a little longer with my sweet children.
The biggest lesson?
Create the fun factor now, find ways to feel good now, enjoy the life you’re living right now + watch what happens.
It may seem like it will be easier to feel good when good things show up, like acting jobs, but when you start noticing the amazing opportunities you have to feel good right now in your life, you may not really care whether you book the job….and that’s exactly when you will.
Here’s to letting go, finding your joy + letting in more success.
