Our thoughts matter. A lot.
In fact, our thoughts work kind of like this….
I love this quote from Louise Hay, but if you feel like you’re drowning in a sea of your own negativity, trying to flip a switch and “be positive” doesn’t really work.
Here are 3 Steps To Take When You’re Drowning In Negativity
1) Allow yourself to feel + let it all out.
Often when uncomfortable situations or feelings arise, we retreat into our phones, social media or negative thoughts about what is wrong or how we should or shouldn’t be feeling. Stop fighting with the negativity that wants to be heard. Stay present with the actual experience of what you are feeling and let it all out.
2) Practice radical self-acceptance.
Radical self acceptance means acknowledging whatever you’re feeling, without trying to judge or push it away. It’s about not beating yourself up for feeling bad, but loving yourself no matter how you feel.
3) Choose a more loving thought.
Once you’ve had a good cry, punched a pillow or talked to someone (even a professional) about how you feel and not beaten yourself up for doing so, not only will you feel better, but you’ll also be more able to choose a loving thought.
When you realize a negative belief you have about yourself, is simply a thought you keep repeating, you can more easily change your thought, one mindful moment at a time.
However you choose to practice self-acceptance today, just know that when you do, you’ll begin to float on the ocean of life.
