I drove out of my way to celebrate one sign of success…and then another one literally walked out from underneath it.

Last Friday, I was on my way home from an Emmy dress fitting at a fashion designer’s studio (a pinch-me moment in itself) when my husband and I decided to drive out of our way to Burbank. 

There was a giant billboard for Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat celebrating our show’s Emmy nomination, and I thought, No. Let’s not just drive home. Let’s go see it.

I didn’t want to simply drive past it or look at a photo someone had sent me. I wanted to actually stand underneath it and take in the moment.

Because I’ve realized something about myself: I’ve always been very good at pursuing the next dream, but I haven’t always been quite as good at stopping long enough to celebrate the one that already came true.

Book the job. What’s next? Reach the milestone. Move the finish line. Achieve the thing you once desperately wanted, and suddenly there’s another thing to achieve.

So that day, I made a conscious decision:

I’m going to stop,
savor the moment
and celebrate this.

My husband stood across the street filming as I walked underneath this enormous billboard, pointing up at the show, dancing, laughing, taking pictures and really allowing myself to take it all in.

And then something happened that I couldn’t possibly have planned.

As I was standing there, someone walked out of the parking garage directly underneath the billboard and shouted, “Wendy!”

I turned around thinking, Wait…who’s calling my name?

It was one of my Success Breakthrough Workshop star students, Jacob Wilson.

We hugged and took a photo together, and he began telling me how profoundly the work I’ve been putting out into the world for more than a decade had impacted his life.

And as I stood there listening to him, I suddenly realized I was looking at two completely different representations of success at the exact same time.

Above me was this enormous billboard celebrating a television show I’m incredibly proud to be part of. Standing beside me was an amazing human being who represented the impact of this other part of my life’s work.

I went there to celebrate the billboard,
but the bigger sign walked out from underneath it.

And it was not lost on me for one second how synchronous the whole thing felt.

I have spent more than three decades building a career as an actress, never knowing exactly where that path would take me. And somewhere along the way, another purpose emerged: helping other people believe in themselves, move through fear and self-doubt, and keep going after the dreams in their hearts.

I pursued both. Not because I knew how either one would turn out. I didn’t.  I just knew they were both part of my passion.

These have sometimes felt like two separate parts of my purpose. That day, they literally collided underneath a billboard in Burbank.

Here I was, in this incredibly specific moment in time,
literally standing underneath one dream
while being thanked for the impact of the other.

Both mattered.
Both had grown.
Both had become parts of
the dream life I was now standing inside.

There was something about the divine timing of it all that made me think:
You are exactly where you need to be.

One wasn’t more important than the other.

That was the moment.

And that’s part of what I want to remind you of today.

Maybe you are exactly where you need to be,
even if you can’t yet see how all the pieces fit together.

If there is a dream in your heart, pursue it.
It’s not just a wish. It is your soul calling you forward to expand into all you’re meant to become.

And if you discover another purpose along the way, you don’t necessarily have to choose between them simply because you can’t yet see where either path will lead.

Sometimes we have no idea how the different pieces of our lives are going to connect while we’re living them.

Keep following what matters to you. Keep creating. Keep listening to those impulses. Keep doing the work that feels meaningful. You may be building something far bigger and more interconnected than you can see from where you’re standing right now.

But there was another lesson in that moment for me, too.

Slow down long enough to take in the view
and celebrate what has already happened.

I’ve spent so much of my life moving the finish line. Now I’m learning that ambition doesn’t have to mean constantly leaving the present moment in pursuit of the next one.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting more. I certainly do. There are dreams I’m still moving toward, ideas I’m still building, roles I still want to play, and experiences I can’t wait to have.

But I don’t want those dreams to rob me of the life I’m currently living.
And I don’t want that for you, either.

That’s one of the reasons I wanted to share this moment with you. Because as I take the time to slow down, acknowledge my own wins and celebrate how far I’ve come, hopefully it reminds you to do the same.

Not just the giant, billboard-sized wins.

All of them.

The things you once wanted…that have now become “normal.” The person you’ve helped. The courage you found. The relationship you’ve built. The opportunity you created. The dream you kept going after when you had absolutely no guarantee it would work. The resilience you fostered along the way.

All of it matters. I truly believe in my heart that all of it is leading you to the light.

The life you are living right now
contains things a past version of you
once dreamed about.

Maybe you’ve forgotten to take that in?
So I hope you’ll slow down and ask yourself today: What is already present in your life that you haven’t fully allowed yourself to receive or celebrate?

Take a moment and really answer that.
Because maybe success isn’t one giant moment that finally arrives and announces, You made it.

Maybe it’s learning to recognize all of the moments along the way that remind you: Look at how far I’ve already come.

And maybe it’s also trusting the parts you can’t see yet.
Trust in the divine timing of your life.
Trust in the future you cannot see.
When in doubt, double down on your dream.
Follow any path that lights up your soul.

Because we can’t plan the external outcome.

I didn’t plan on booking this job. I didn’t plan on being on a billboard or our show receiving an Emmy nomination. I didn’t plan for an Amazon Prime truck to drive by exactly when my husband was filming me on a Prime Video series billboard.

And I definitely didn’t plan for one of my amazing students to walk out of the parking garage underneath that billboard calling my name.

But maybe that’s the point.
We don’t get to know the outcome in advance.

We must dream anyway.
We must follow what calls us anyway.
We must do the work anyway.
We must keep going anyway.

And every once in a while, life gives us a moment that stops us in our tracks and lets us see how some of the pieces have been fitting together all along.. 

That’s what this moment was for me.
A reminder to notice all the signs.

The one above me.
The ones all around me.
And the ones I can’t see yet.

So wherever you are on your journey, I hope you’ll slow down today, look around and take in the view.
