For years I tried to figure out what more I could DO to have the success I wanted.
More marketing,
more networking,
another class…
The list was long and it never seemed to end.
We are a society of DOers and HAVErs. We are taught that the more we do, the more we can have.
We are taught to pursue, push + “just do it,” sometimes the point of exhaustion.
In the acting business, there will always be room for improvement, no matter what level of success you achieve.
Yet, sometimes taking action, after you’ve been spinning your wheels, can actually be counterproductive.
But what do you do when you’ve done all you can?
I read a quote recently in Marianne Williamson’s book, The Law of Divine Compensation that summed up what I had done to create a lot of my current success + happiness.
After doing all I could do, I finally learned that the more I surrendered + could actually let go of all my “doing,” the more success found me.
In fact, offers came in – not only for amazing roles, but life-altering moments that take your breath away – like the offer to marry my soul mate.
Here’s why life works this way…
When you continue to take action while focusing on the fact that something you want hasn’t show up yet (whether it’s something in your career or your personal life), your mental energy + focus on the “lack” is often the thing keeping it at bay.
So, if there’s a big dream you want, and you’ve been taking a lot of action, but still are not seeing results + you can’t figure out why, try surrendering it to the altar – in your mind, in your home or in the field of infinite possibilities.
If you don’t have a physical altar, simply the act of handing your dream to whatever higher power you believe in, will alter your outcome. If even that sounds too “spiritual,” try visualizing placing your dream inside a hot air balloon, and watch it take off as you let go of trying to control the outcome.
You may even find you feel a sense of relief + a weight lifted off your shoulders once you let it go.
Also, you’ll discover that by placing something you’ve been holding on to on the altar, your hands will become free….for receiving.
Here’s to a wonderful week of letting go + knowing that everything really is working out for you
