How often do you wake up + start thinking the same thoughts you did yesterday?
Why isn’t my agent getting me more auditions?
Why didn’t I get a callback?
Why does that actress in my class book everything?.
Why can’t I_____________? (fill in the blank)
But what you miss when you start your day asking the same questions you asked yourself yesterday, is that, it is not the agent, the casting director or ‘this business’ that is keeping you stuck.
It is you.
Your habit of daily negative focus is what keeps you glued to where you are.
Begin today by simply noticing where you focus your thoughts in all kinds of situations.
When you’re stuck in traffic, do you tend to focus on the stopped traffic or do you notice the palm trees?
Shift your focus. Shift everything.
In fact, I took this picture while sitting in traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway, as cars honked and some people got irate at having to slow down to a complete stop.
And in that moment, I realized, I could focus on the traffic, or I could look at the amazing view of the palm tress, the ocean, and the mountains and how lucky I feel to live on the western edge of the United States.
It took less than a second to switch my focus.
Once you become aware of where you are focusing your thoughts + attention, you can make the shift.
Or as the late, great Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
Best-selling author Abraham-Hicks puts it this way, “When you wake up in the morning, the cells of your body have pushed the reset button. And if you don’t reintroduce negative beliefs that you have about your body or about your ability, as soon as you wake up-then you have a fresh start.”
To begin the day having a fresh start, you have to decide that you are going to deliberately focus on what feels good.
When you sleep, your mind has been quieted, so when you awake, instead of picking up where you left off on the series of disempowering questions, why not ask yourself this instead:
What am I thankful for today?
Who can I send loving thoughts to today?
What can I do to be proactive today in my career?
When you give yourself the fresh start of first aligning with gratitude + appreciation, then stepping into a space of love, and finally taking action from this new and improved headspace, you will not only be giving yourself a fresh start, but you will have a completely different experience.
Ideas will begin to form.
Opportunities will start to appear.
Doors will begin to open.
Even parking spaces will show up.
And as you acknowledge each and every little win, more wins will come your way.
As you deliberately choose where to focus your thoughts, your experience will shift to mirror what is going on within you.
So make today a fresh start.
Play the game of aligning your mind, looking for the good + gathering the evidence.
Actors I work with have played this game for weeks, and now months, and have gotten everything from free coffee and free flowers, to booking their dream job.
Now it’s your turn. This may seem simple, but try it for 24 hours.
Today is a brand new day.
Focus on what you’re thankful for.
Focus on who you love.
Focus on what you can do right now, and go do it.
Let me know in the comments below what you are going to focus on today.
I can’t wait to hear what shifts for you this week.
Love + Gratitude,
– Wendy

I desperately need a mind shift. So I’m going to reset and change perspective. What I’m going to do today is not focus on the problems but focus on the love for my family, friends, and career.
Hi there Wendy! Long time no talk. I love your post I was having a bad day and I had to remember to shift my focus. Nevertheless I’m still stuck in life. I forget during the day when frustration from relationships and work and everything get to me then I totally forgett to get back into that positive focus.. this is possibly why i am still stuck in life !I guess it’s got to be consistent all day long right ?
How do you achieve that? It’s so freaking difficult to respond positively to negative things
Ingrid,
We all go through ups downs. I do think the key is to be gentle with yourself no matter how you are feeling. Allow yourself to feel all your feelings, but also step back witness your thoughts as if you were perched high in a tree. Just notice if you are attached to an outcome (which will most always cause suffering) or if you can let go choose a new way of looking at things. It’s a daily practice, one that comes with simply being aware of your focus. Try it and see what shifts.
