Why You Don’t Get What You Want + What To Do About It

Here’s the underlying reason why you don’t get what you want..

It’s the real truth…you don’t get what you want, you get what you expect.

The great thing about knowing this, is that you have the power of your practiced expectation.

You can learn to shift your focus + begin to practice expecting the best life has to offer.  How often do you hear actors (or yourself) say…

I’ll never get a callback.
I always get stuck in traffic.
I’m never going to book this job.

If any of those statements sound familiar, I invite you to remove 2 words from your vocabulary.
1) Always
2) Never

There are moments using these 2 words may make your circumstances feel true, but these statements are merely negative expectation.   The important thing to know isthat your words and thoughts have energy + that energy is emitted out into the world.

Your experiences come back to you as a mirror of what is going on within you.  So what would it take to make sure you begin each day with positive expectation?

Ask yourself:
How can I look for the good today everywhere I go?

Remind yourself:
Everything always works out for me. 

Then spend your day looking for the evidence of the good, vs. trying to find how things, people, agents + casting directors are not serving you or letting you down.

It really all begins and ends with you.  You set the tone, the minute you wake up.

Another way to practice expecting the best, is looking for the ways in which the world is smiling at you.  I’ve been playing this fun game with my kids all summer long.  We call it, “Find The Smile.”

Just this weekend on the way to the beach in the car, we tried to find as many smiles in the world as we could.

We noticed the curve of the road, the sway in a mountain top and the front of every mini Cooper that passed us by.  (Those cars just look happy!)

I’m showing my children (as I remind myself) that the world is smiling at you, we just have to open our eyes with positive expectation in order to really see it.

It’s ultimately where we choose to focus our attention that determines our day.

It’s also a great way to look outside yourself for what IS working, that Mother Nature is spreading joy wherever we go + that all is really well.

Here’s to noticing the world smiling at you today + expecting the best this week.   Who knows, you may end up getting a callback, breezing through traffic + booking the job.

And for the jobs you “expected to get” + you don’t book, try driving home finding the smiles in the world.  The are all around you.
