From Self-Doubt To Series Regular: Mignon’s #SuccessBreakthrough Story

I’ve been witnessing so many mind-blowing breakthroughs this year (not only in my own life + career) but in the lives + careers of so many amazing actors.

I know that if their stories have been getting me teary-eyed, they will most likely serve to uplift and empower you as well. 

I find that as we each share our challenges, triumphs, setbacks and victories, we realize we are not so alone.  

It is my hope that when you see another actor overcome obstacles, strengthen their faith, shine their light in a powerful way + then take bold action, it will give you permission to do the same.

And to also know that when you see someone celebrating an outer breakthrough like “booking a Series Regular role,” you’ll now know how vital their inner breakthroughs were to their success. 

This is Mignon’s #SuccessBreakthrough story….

Mignon stars as a Series Regular in the Tyler Perry dramedy, Sistas. 
She’s now appeared on 4 Seasons of the hit BET show, but here is how it all began…

I caught up with Mignon to find out how it all happened. I hope you enjoy our interview.

What had you been struggling with in your life or career when you first attended my free masterclass?

I was struggling with real confidence and self-doubt. I needed to breakthrough! Whatever the break was I wanted it. I was seeking wisdom and your teachings really spoke to me, so I dove deeper and joined The Success Breakthrough Workshop.

What I love about your story is how committed you are to doing the work. Once you began my course, you not only did the inner work of uprooting your limiting beliefs, but then you also did the outer work of taking inspired action. The combination is where our true power lies.

Yes. I have come to realize awareness has to be followed by inspired consistent disciplined action.
So when I wake up and feel uneasy I have to remember to love myself, know I am enough, and TAKE ACTION.

Absolutely! And look at all that has manifested for you with that as your powerful daily recipe. It’s why I love teaching the importance of both the inner and outer game. Tell me about your inner + outer breakthroughs since doing the Success Breakthrough Workshop.

Inner breakthroughs are the most important. I trust myself more.  Like most actors we’ve trained our lives away.  We understand the craft, but the part of the craft that can’t be taught is trusting yourself and faith.

I had one more hurdle to cross, real belief in myself, and your course was a big help in breaking down that mental barrier.

I’m always amazed at how no matter how big the outer breakthrough an actor has, that it is always the inner breakthrough that transforms them the most.  In fact, without the massive inner breakthrough, the outer breakthroughs rarely show up.

How have the #SuccessBreakthrough tools + teachings helped you along the way?

One of the biggest ones is reframing my thoughts around fear: “I’m not nervous, I’m excited.”  When you spoke about the science of our body having the same physiological response, I was done.

Like the mental breakthrough, girl…it’s so profound that it seems like it should be obvious. Duh!  Choose how you wanna feel? Empowered or disempowered.  Yeah! You wanna feel empowered right?!  So why are you nervous? Because you’re not sure you belong or you might choke?  Or are you excited and grateful to just be here and have the opportunity to share your gift?!

Yes! Isn’t it funny how a small shift like that could lead to such a huge breakthrough? But the other key is, you were open. You didn’t know how a breakthrough would come, but you were open by taking the leap + taking action. And things changed for you because of it.  What has been the biggest change in your life or career since then?

I’m so grateful to say that I am a lead and Series Regular on Tyler Perry & BET’s new hour long dramedy Sistas!

I’m beyond thrilled for you. What a blessing. To see you overcome obstacles, straighten your faith, be open to learning + then take what you learned + shine your light in this way, makes me so happy. But you did the work. And I’m grateful my course helped to spark a breakthrough like this for you.

I remember getting the email from you just a few months after you finished the course, which as you can imagine, was such a rewarding moment for me, as a mentor.

It’s so fun for me to look back and actually track your AHA moments, inside the course SBW Mastermind Group.  Those moments where you realized, you get to choose where you put your focus + how it makes you feel.  Those moments where you’re reminded to make peace with whatever fear was showing up for you.  That’s huge.  This is the real inner work that most people don’t see.

Yes. Your course helped me to do the work. The deep work.  My mastermind moment was that what you focus on you create more of, what you resist persist.

And then, what happens? You take that ownership of who you are and where you are in your journey and you bring all of that into the audition room.  And less than 8 months later, you become a Series Regular, starring in this new show.  I love this, Mignon! It is so inspiring.

I also appreciate how much gratitude you have flowed back to me, even in the midst of shooting.  To get sweet emails like this from my students not long after they finish my course is so fulfilling + rewarding. So thank you again.

And then earlier this month you joined Tyler Perry as he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame…mind-blowing, Mignon!

Yes. That was a day I will never forget.  To be there in person and witness this amazing man immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and be part of his community…well, I was honored and grateful to witness it all.

What advice would you give to other actors:

Get a spiritual practice. I know we live in a technological age, but know that we are infinite spiritual beings on a temporal corporal journey.

Connect with God. I personally am a Christian. I cannot do this without my faith, and IF I could, I would not want to do it without Christ.

Life has been better, even at my lowest, when my faith and intimacy with Christ deepened.

You need a strong “why” when the going gets tough.

Encountering God, helped me understand my purpose and it made the couch surfing, the post-mating, the tears worth it.

I knew why I was doing it all. Find your why, I’ll bet if you find Him you’ll find It.

I noticed this quote on Mignon’s Facebook page, a few weeks after she found out the Series Regular news.

Every heartache, embarrassment, victory, wound, trauma, & triumph leading to this moment.

The moment that I would be introduced to a character that I know all to well.

A woman full of love but afraid of it.

A woman hopeful but cynical, competent but underachieving.

A woman who in some version of a mirror is me at the core.

I hope you all love Danni, she’s worth it.

So in essence, we are all on the quest for a spiritual transformation, as actors, as storytellers, as human beings.  To then read Mignon’s beautiful post as she introduced the world to her Series Regular character Danni, and see that she had done her work, she had made peace with it all, and now gets to pour her huge heart into this character she was born to play is a moment I want for every actor.
