How have you been feeling lately? Have you been feeling inspired + motivated or lethargic + unproductive? I know the last 12 months have been a roller-coaster ride.
As we begin the 3rd month of 2021, I hope you are making your mental health + self-care your #1 priority. (And yes, it effects everything you do for your acting career).
How do you know if you have an effective daily well-being routine? Here’s a great way to check in:
Have you been allowing outer circumstances + events to dictate how you feel each day or have you been aligning your mind + getting out ahead of it all, as you begin your day?
To be on a creative path, is to be on a spiritual path. The good news, is you have more creative control of your life than you might think, even when external circumstances seem limiting.
So often we think that life is just happening to us, and we forget that our energy and perspective plays a vital role in the unfolding of it all.
Best-selling author, Dr. Joe Dispenza says,
“When it comes down to it, there are 2 ways to approach our lives: either as the victims to our lives or the creators of our lives. To live as the victim is to live within the limited belief system that everything in our outer world is happening to us.
Simply put, when things are good, you feel good. When things are bad, you feel bad. That’s the polarized world of victim consciousness in a nutshell.
Creative consciousness, on the other hand, is the awareness that when you feel joy, love, or gratitude before your creation is made manifest—& you combine that energy of joy, love, or gratitude with the intent of new information—it is that elevated frequency that can carry that thought.”
Quotes like this always inspire me so much.
When you learn how to choose your thoughts + emotions (no matter what is going on in the outside world), you become a master of your life.
And what happens, is you begin to see yourself as infinite intelligence sees you.
In fact, here is what infinite intelligence would tell you today, my fellow creative warrior…
You matter. You belong. You are important. You are powerful. You are ready. Your time is now. You playing small does not serve the world. There will never be another you. You have many gifts to share. You have many amazing experiences ahead. You are worthy of all of life’s beautiful blessings. You are ready to receive.
Hope you had a fun + safe Halloween weekend. Personally, I’ve cried a few times this past week for all kinds of reasons. You too?
As you may know, I got choked up while sharing my very vulnerable story about growing up with shame, anxiety + around mental illness (and how it has all shaped the work I do with actors).Click here to watch the video.
I cried again reading your beautiful responses and how sharing my story helped you to realize not only are you not alone, but that it’s okay to share your vulnerability and your pain as well. In fact, your deepest pain can become your greatest gift, if you can face it, feel it and heal it. I hope you now know, we are all in this together.
Then, over the Halloween weekend, as I was folding 3 piles of laundry on the bed with my ever-supportive husband, while my children were bouncing off the walls from a candy-induced sugar rush, I broke down again.
Can I just say…tears are a breakthrough. So please, by all means, go ahead and cry your eyes out (especially if you’ve been holding it all in lately for whatever reason).
Ok, so in addition to feeling emotional about politics + pandemics, heck, I’ve had some great self-tapes lately, and I haven’t heard anything yet, and it all just got to me.
I know as actors, we each put our whole heart into what we do, and sometimes it’s hard to let it all go and be present in the moment. (Yes, I struggle with this too).
So I made this quick video to walk you through exactly what I do when I’m deeply frustrated (and how to release it in seconds). And whether you use my method this week to deal with politics, pandemics or post self-tape, I truly hope this helps you. (And you enjoy my Halloween makeup).
Click the video below to learn my 2 step process for post-selftape meltdown frustration. (I think you’ll love it!)
I hope this helps you to know that every actor goes through these kinds of moments.
I’ve created something to help you ease anxiety + improve well-being during this global pandemic, and decided to give it away for free to anyone who needs it.
I know there’s a lot of fear + uncertainty in the world right now, but this is also a beautiful opportunity to go within + create more peace in your life.
The Dalai Lama states that, “World peace begins with inner peace.”
Sometimes, in the midst of chaos, people have an even harder time finding stillness.
In fact, one friend, who knows she should meditate, told me, “Right now, meditation just feels like worrying with my eyes closed.”
I get it. That’s where guided meditation comes in.
You don’t need to know how to meditate.
You don’t have to sit in the lotus pose.
You just need to know how to download an audio, press play + listen.
In under 15 minutes, I will guide you to quiet your mind, relax your body + open your heart.
Just imagine if everyone in the world did this for 15 minutes a day, what kind of peace might emerge out of this global pause.
Here’s to knowing that in every moment throughout your day, you have the option to choose peace over panic, and I’m excited to provide a free guided meditation to help you realign your mind + alleviate some of your stress.
Have you been facing tons of rejection lately? Have you allowed it to devastate you? You’re not alone.
As actors, collecting the “no’s” should be part of our job description, and yet no one really teaches us how to do that without getting defeated.
Whether it’s not booking the job, not getting the callback or not getting signed by an agent, all of the rejection can chip away at your confidence.
It’s your ability to not allow any of these experiences to turn into a negative belief about yourself that really is the key. That really is it. It’s how you handle all the rejection, without letting it devastate you, define you or defeat you that will ultimately determine your success.
So don’t take one experience of rejection and allow it to define who you are + what will or won’t happen in your career.
Your thoughts become beliefs, and you get to (more…)
Those days where you do your best work and don’t book the job (or even get a callback) can be frustrating for many actors.
When this happens over and over again, it can be debilitating. Self-doubt sets in. You walk into your next audition and (often unconsciously) try harder, and the rejection cycle continues.
But it is in those challenging moments, where your ego tries to convince you that you are somehow not enough or that you need to change or fix something about your appearance, instead I invite you to dig deeper and respond to it all with love.
Here are 9 words to help you turn rejection into opportunity.
Take a deep breath today and know that….
Yes, all is well and even better things are coming.
As you access this unconditionally loving space within your heart, you activate brand-new (more…)
Last month I was asked to be the guest of honor and guest speaker at a charity event, back in my hometown of Northbrook, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. (Basically where all the John Hughes movies were filmed.)
They wanted me to talk about how I went from performing in the musicals, plays, variety shows + choirs at Glenbrook South High School to becoming an established actress in Hollywood.
The more I thought about my journey from performing back high school to now having over 75 tv + film credits, I realized that the running theme along the way, was that I simply…kept going.
I kept going in the face of obstacles.
I kept going in the face of uncertainty.
I kept doing the things that scared me the most.
Ultimately, my success has come from mastering the fine art of dealing with failure, rejection + disappointment.
That is the real key to success.
There isn’t one successful person on the planet who hasn’t failed, been rejected or felt disappointment. It’s whether you allow it to (more…)
Ever find yourself feeling elated, excited + enthusiastic about life and then the next week find yourself feeling disappointed, sad or just crying in a heap?
This was me for the first 2 weeks of May…riding high and then feeling really low.
The highs are easy, right?
But, when the low point came, I found myself saying things like “You know that feeling bad isn’t helping. You have a great life. Snap out of it. What’s your problem?”
Then, I finally allowed myself to just not feel good, to lay on the couch with my dog and simply sob for all kinds of reasons and for no reason at all (while telling him he has it all figured out – after all, “dog” is “god” backwards + that’s gotta mean something!)
I allowed myself to embrace the situation as it was, to feel whatever it was I was feeling without telling myself I should feel better or that I should be doing something else (something other than sobbing with my dog while my sweet husband offered his support.)
And ya know what? I highly recommend it.
What I came to discover is that the way “out” of those disappointing, frustrating + sad moments is to go fully through them.
The best way to handle it all is to allow yourself to come unhinged + give yourself permission to not have to “get it together” on demand.
Did you watch The Emmy’s last night? Did it inspire you or make you doubt your dreams can happen?
I think Uzo Adube’s acceptance speech said it all…
“I thank you for putting belief back in my heart.”
I was amazed to learn that Uzo Adube had actually decided to quit acting just before getting cast in this life-changing role on Orange Is The New Black.
Apparently she had auditioned for the show, and heard nothing for a month. Then after arriving late to a Blue Bloods audition she felt she had blown, she went home feeling like it was a sign that she should just find something else to do.
I'VE TURNED A SLOW STREAK INTO A BOOKING STREAK AND I FEEL REALLY EMPOWERED.
"Wendy is so generous with her knowledge and understanding of the deeper, inside work that goes into living a healthy, happy, well balanced actor life. Her daily inspirations mean so much to me...and I'm grateful for the custom guided meditation she wrote for me. I've turned a slow streak into a booking streak & I feel really empowered."

I BOOKED TWO ACTING GIGS IN THE SAME WEEK BECAUSE I HAD HER CD ON REPEAT!
"I listen to Wendy's guided meditations pretty much every chance I get. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have her amazing voice in my ear keeping me empowered, inspired + in the right mental space to persevere day in and day out. I booked two acting gigs in the same week because I had Wendy's Creating Powerful Auditions album on repeat. Thank you WENDY for your positivity + light!"
YOUR AFFIRMATIONS ALLOWED ME TO STEP OUT OF THE FEAR AND BE PRESENT IN THE ROOM.
"I just returned from an audition after listening to your guided meditations. Your affirmations allowed me to step out of the fear and be present in the room. As I waited for my audition I envisioned the session being successful and feeling empowered afterward. And it was and I did."
SINCE LISTENING TO YOUR GUIDED MEDITATIONS, I BOOKED 2 FEATURE FILMS
"I bought Creating Powerful Auditions and I listen to it every morning. "Empowering Myself" is my absolute favorite meditation, sometimes I put it on repeat until I fully and truly feel every declaration. Since I've been listening to your guided meditations I booked my first feature film + also recently booked the lead role in my first horror film. Thank you for coming into my life!”
I BOOKED THE JOB! LISTENING TO CREATING POWERFUL AUDITIONS MADE A DIFFERENCE!
"Been listening to your "Creating Powerful Auditions" mp3 daily since purchasing about a week ago. Listened to it on the way to an audition...took a few moments before leaving my car to do the visualizations. I walked into the audition room feeling totally empowered, feeling light. I booked the job. I feel your album made a difference. Thank you, Wendy."
