Thriving Through Uncertainty

I know how easy it is to want the external conditions to change, so we can feel better.

And I know how much uncertainty is prevalent on the planet right now + we all feel it.

Uncertainty in the world (or in our acting careers) can make us feel unstable or unsure of the path ahead and even confused about what direction to take on any given day.

And all of this unsteadiness may bring up fears within us. I get it.

But what if we looked at our fears differently right now?

In this video, I’m sharing my best tips for thriving through uncertainty.

What if fear was simply an alert that you’re just out of alignment with your highest self and you’re allowing your mind to run looping thoughts?

What if fear is arising because you are starting to believe those looping stories as true?

What if it’s possible to be thriving through uncertainty? (more…)

3 Steps For Feeling Good + Getting Stuff Done (Even Homeschooling)

A quick shout out to all the beautiful mothers out there – Happy (Belated) Mother’s Day!

I am giving you a virtual hug to you today for all you are, all you give and all you do.  (And you’ll love today’s video, because I’m sharing my 3 step system I use at home to help homeschool my kids without all the meltdowns (for myself and them).

And if you’re not a mom, you’ll find that today’s video will help you to set your day up in a way that makes you feel good and gives you the motivation to get stuff done.

If you have lost your mom, I know that Mother’s Day (and any day) can be tough.  I lost my mom 10 years ago, so I get it.  I know that your mother’s light shines through you and I do believe that when you think of her, it’s because she thought of you first.

If you’re an actor who is thinking “can I really have a career and a family?” I’m here to tell you 100%…YES.  It requires an awesome partner, a calendar, flexibility and a sense of humor (for starters), but it is possible.

I do remember being pregnant with my first son, though not showing yet, and after a day of multiple auditions, I came home, cried on the floor + said to my husband, “How on earth am I going to do this when I have a baby?”

Like everything uncertain (pandemics, acting careers, motherhood) you will figure it out as you go.

Finding Solutions In Challenging Times

I’m keeping it short + sweet today, since I know your inbox (and your brain) might be overwhelmed with incoming messages, offerings and more “should do’s.”

Today’s tip will help you tune into the solutions you are seeking.

I know this has been a stressful time for everyone, and that you may be facing a lot of challenges right now.

But I also want to remind you that within every challenge, arises an even bigger solution.
(And your solution is not to get “busy doing more,” which just creates more angst + exhaustion)

The solutions you are looking for are not in your angst, they’re in your alignment.

So, throughout your day today, instead of worrying about what other actors are doing right now, and adding more to your plate, give yourself permission to pause. (more…)

Productivity Tip That Will Change Your Results Fast…

Have you been feeling really distracted lately?  Yep, me too.

With so many messages, opportunities and offerings coming our way these days, it’s easy to get overwhelmed (and get nothing done), while simultaneously feeling like you “should” be doing more.

So, today, I want to share a simple productivity tip that’s been helping me this past week and will change your results fast (especially if you’re having trouble focusing).

Your Well-Being To-Do List (Printable Gift For You)

I’m so glad last week’s post helped so many of you turn the “should do’s” into “could do’s” and serve to let go of the guilt or shame of “not being more productive.”

Read it here:
How To Let Go Of The Guilt Of Not Being More Productive (During A Global Pandemic)

This theme (and your response to it) got me thinking about how so much of our worth + value has been tied up for so long in what we produce, what we do, and what we accomplish.

Many of us have spent years hustling, and being “busy doing more” to show ourselves (and anyone we think might be watching) that we are of value.

Even in our world of “show-business,” it really is all about show.  When you book a job, it seems the minute you wrap, everyone wants to know, what’s next?  What do you have to “show” for yourself?

But now that the world has essentially “stopped all the doing,” and our industry is on a global pause, it’s given each of us a time to re-evaluate how we perceive ourselves + even redefine what success truly means.

Does success mean being productive to the point of burnout + overwhelm?
Does success mean splitting your energy in a million different ways?
Does success mean hustling + being everything to everyone?

What if you used this time to think about where you were putting your energy, how it was (or wasn’t) serving you + how you can reshape your life moving forward.

And for those of you who love a good to-do list, I thought I’d put one together for your well-being.

When you align with the inner knowing that you don’t have to be productive to be of value, you can then choose activities, people + projects that light you up, instead of using any of it to prove your worthiness.

Thank You…(A Love Letter To My Tribe)

I’m flying home today from an amazing weekend in Vancouver + my heart is filled with so much gratitude.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday in the US this week, I want to give thanks for you, my friend.

I am so thankful for the space you grant me each + every week in your email inbox.

To be able to inspire, uplift + empower other artists all over the world, has truly been a gift in my life. Thank you.

Because of you, I am inspired to keep going, to keep writing each week, even when I’m tired, even when it’s late, my kids are asleep and I am staring at a blank screen.

Because of you, I have learned that serving + helping others fuels my soul.

Because of you, I have learned that what you give out comes back to you in wonderful ways.

Special Note:  Comp tickets for my Live Masterclasses are now available for Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and we’ve just added London, all in January!

Because of you, I am filled with gratitude.

The Simple Practice That Creates Bigger Results

I’ve been practicing daily gratitude this month, and not only do I feel better, but it’s definitely opened up a doorway for more good things to come to me easily + effortlessly.

I invite you to do the same, beginning right now.

The key for me has been not doing so to “make something happen,” but instead because it simply feels good to focus on the good.

And the extra benefit is that I’m also training my brain to criticize less, find fault less + complain less.

And what has been happening?  I’ve had new bookings, been invited to be a podcast guest on one of my favorite shows, and last week, I became a GIF!

If you haven’t heard, I’m back for Season 3 of Atypical, which I’m thrilled report, was the #1 binge-watched show on Netflix last week.  (Our show beat “Friends,” which took 2nd place).

This role (that started out as a few short scenes in Season 1), has now turned into a three season recurring role, with multiple episodes, fun story lines, and lots of matching sweater sets.  (Can you tell I love playing the uptight but well-intentioned, Kathy, always going head-to-head with Jennifer Jason Leigh?)

I couldn’t be more grateful to be part of a show that promotes inclusion, spreads autism awareness, and is filled with laughs, love + compassion.

It was a full circle moment, when (more…)

Premieres, Screenings + Guest Speaking, Oh My!

What an amazing month it has been!

Last week I was invited to speak on a panel at SAG-AFTRA about balancing career + family. I loved sharing tips + stories on how you can absolutely manage both + the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I ’ll share the video link once it’s ready so you can watch from anywhere in the world.

Then last night I attended a screening of a hilarious feature film that I star in with Danny Trejo called Donny’s Party. I’m sharing the link below to the story of how my cold read turned into booking the lead.

And tonite is the premiere party for Season 3 of Atypical which is released this Friday, Nov. 1 on Netflix. I feel so grateful to be returning for my 3rd season of this awesome show.

Then in the spirit of helping others, tomorrow and this Sunday, I’ll be teaching actors “How To Have A Success Breakthrough.”

Both events are completely sold out, but I have 2 more dates in Los Angeles before the end of the year. And then, I’m coming to Vancouver in November and many other cities in January.

For Your Emmy® Consideration: Wendy Braun

I’m beyond thrilled to share some exciting news with you…

I am in the running for an Emmy® nomination for my work on Atypical (Netflix).

For Your Emmy® Consideration:
Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series

It’s been so much fun to return to this amazing show each season + play a character who tries so hard to keep it all together, while things around her are falling apart (especially while getting my “jai-ho” on in a Bollywood dance workout).

Television Academy members can view the episode on the FYC site here: http://view.televisionacademy.com

Not an academy member? You can view it here + help spread the love: wendybraun.com/fyc

I am so grateful to be part of a show that celebrates inclusion and acceptance, proves that being normal is overrated, and continues the conversation to help break any stigma around autism.

I’d also like to say thank you for all the love + support.

I moved to Los Angeles, 5 days before the Northridge earthquake in 1994.

Immediately after it happened, my mom called and asked what I was going to do and if I was going to stay in LA or come back home to Chicago. (more…)

Letting Go + Healing Your Soul (A Personal Story)

I sometimes think letting go is the hardest part of what we do as actors.

Letting go of an audition when you know you did your best and you hear nothing.
Letting go of a callback when you made them laugh but you don’t book the job.
Letting go of how you think the scene should go, so you can be present in the moment.
Letting go of how you think your career should go, so you can be open to what’s meant for you.

Then, there’s letting go in life.
This past week we had to let go of our beautiful (more…)
