5 Steps To Knowing You’re Worth It

My 5-year-old son loves to dance.  And I love to make playlists to inspire his love of music and funky moves.

After listening to Fifth Harmony’s “Baby I’m Worth It” several times, (no, I haven’t shown him the video yet!) he literally said to me one day, “Mommy, if anyone at kindergarten be’s mean to me and says I am not amazing, I’m just gonna tell them, ‘Baby, I’m worth it.‘”

This stopped me in my tracks.

Not only was his misuse of the English language something I’ll miss one day (Yes, “be’s” will become “is”) but I love that at 5-years-old, he knows that if someone says something mean to him, it is simply not true.

It defies law.  It defies what he knows in his soul.

That’s because we are all born knowing
We are valuable.
We are worthy.
We are deserving.

Yes. Let’s remind ourselves again, as adults….anything that goes against that knowing is a lie you were taught.

Isn’t it amazing what lies we pick up on during childhood + believe to be true?

Why Waiting To Book A Job To Feel Worthy Never Works

Whether you are waiting to book a job or wishing you had a Valentine to make you feel happy, loved + worthy, I’m going  to share a little secret with you.

The love you are searching for is already here.  It is the mind that has been blocking you from receiving it.

Your ego will constantly search for external factors to bring you what you think you need.  And the thinking mind will always convince you that what you want is outside of you.

Sure, it’s nice to have a Valentine bring you flowers + it’s fun to walk on to the set and be greeted with open arms, but that feeling of love must come (more…)

The Fastest Way To Quiet Your Critical Mind

Do you use December as a time to celebrate all you have done this year + who you have become or as an opportunity to beat yourself up + numb painful emotions you’d rather not face?

The critical mind is a labeling machine, busy judging each and every experience, and often convincing us that no matter what we have done this year…

  1. That we haven’t done enough.
  2. That we should be further along by now.
  3. That the choices we made might not have been the right ones.

As the year comes to a close and we take inventory of our lives + careers so far, all of this critical judgment can convince us that we are somehow not doing it all fast enough, good enough or big enough.

This way of thinking happens when we are living in our heads + not connecting with our hearts.

When we are heart centered, we ignite the light that is always within us + more easily tap into who we really are without labels + judgments.  Connecting to the heart is a sacred space that the mind cannot penetrate.  In fact, judgment ceases to exist here.  The fastest way to quiet your critical mind is through (more…)

A Quick Fix When Nothing Is Going As You Planned

Seems everyone is looking for a quick fix.  We all want to feel better, do better + be better.  Right. Effing.  Now.  (I’m an Aries, so it’s more like Right.  Effing. Yesterday!)

I’ve looked high and low to figure out how to turn things around when nothing was going as I planned, and ultimately, it always came back to the same theme over and over again.

So ask yourself this today….

Like most things, it’s easy to do.  Easy not to do.  Your call.

I hope that if you choose to do one thing this week for your career (and your life) it is simply to (more…)

Hate Auditioning? Hate Running All Over Town? 3 Ways To Transform Your Mood + Acting Career

My kindergartener continues to be a huge source of my inspiration, and frankly, one of my best teachers (in acting + in life).   He lives every moment in the present moment + always authentically expresses how he feels.

Last night, he didn’t want to do his homework.  He had to write multiple lines of upper + lowercase “S.” He declared loudly ,”I hate doing this,” and scribbled S’s on a page.

I get it.  There are some things I ‘hate” doing too, yet it seems the more I choose that perspective, the longer the task seems to take and the result is rarely one I love.

The same was true for my son, even at 5 years old.

I gently responded with…”I see that you’re frustrated, but what if you think about your friend Sophia while you’re printing your “S’s.  You could even tell her you’ve been working on the “S” in her name.”  He smiled.  He loved Sophia, he thought about her for a moment and began to draw a nearly perfect S.  I was in shock + replied, “Wow, that was amazing.”

Then I asked him, “Who is in charge of your mood while you are doing homework?”

He smiled + said, “I am.”  And he just got it.

I didn’t know if my suggestion would work, that part was up to him.  But watching a 5 year old go from hate to love in mere seconds and seeing his handwriting change accordingly confirmed what I know to be true…

I’ve run into many actors over the years who have said things like “I hate auditioning, I hate going to callbacks, I hate driving all over town, I hate this business.”

I’m not sure if any of them were consciously aware that bringing all this “hate” energy into their work, was not helping them get results they loved.  They usually used their lackluster outcome to fuel their mood, instead of knowing it actually works the other way around.   It’s so easy to blame auditions, traffic or a seemingly rude casting director when you don’t book the job, but the reality is you have the ability to transform it all.  Once you see that you can choose a new perspective, you regain your power. 7 Reason to Harness The Power of Feeling Good Now

Haven’t you noticed with some people, success just seems to find them…over and over?
Things align for them.  Success comes easily.

What is their secret?  Connections, training, looks?

None of the above.

If you interviewed 100 successful people in our business, the common denominating factor in their success would be their…consistent state of mind.

More often than not, they don’t get stuck in a state of struggle, but find reasons to feel good now, matter what obstacles they may be facing.  They make feeling good #1 on their To Do List.

From the outside, it may seem as if they are often “in the flow” .Which also means they don’t allow setbacks or rejection to destroy them.  They also “go with the flow” more easily not allowing fear to stop them.

By postponing your happiness, you are actually disallowing the things you want to FLOW into your life! Look for reasons to feel good now every day + watch what shifts in your life + career.

You might hear most actors say…“I will feel so good when…”

5 Ways To Shine Your Light Brightly

Do you ever dim your light so those around you won’t feel threatened?  Do you ever make “less” of booking a job or doing something fabulous so you don’t shine too brightly or seem boastful?  I have.

Maybe it’s a “nice-girl-from-the-midwest” thing, but it never leaves anyone feeling good…not me, not them.  Once I realized that “dimming my light” was not helping anyone else shine brighter or feel better, I realized it was just a learned behavior that I could undo.  And I did!

Imagine living from a place of knowing:

As Marianne Williamson says, “Your playing small does not serve the world.”

Here are 5 ways to let your light to shine brightly. (more…)

10 Ways To Make Space For Success

Spring is the perfect time to clear the clutter + create space for what you really want to have happen in your acting career. When you get rid of anything that doesn’t serve a positive purpose in your life, you make room for things that will.

Clutter-clearing is modern-day alchemy.”
~ Denise Linn

To invite more of anything into your life – acting success, a loving relationship, money or anything else, you need to make space for it to show up + for it to want to stay with you.  It’s almost like preparing for a guest to show up in your home that you can’t wait to have visit.

When you hold on too tightly you actually block the flow of abundance.
Here are 4 ways we block success:

  1. Sometimes we hold on too tightly to money, not allowing it to flow to + from us.
  2. Sometimes we hold on too tightly to things that we don’t need or love.
  3. Sometimes we hold on too tightly to beliefs that just aren’t true.
  4. Sometimes we hold on too tightly to relationships that aren’t supporting us in the way we would like. (personal or business)

Why? We hold on out of fear.  Fear of change.  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of abandonment.

“Clutter is a physical manifestation of fear
that cripples our ability to grow.”
~ H.G. Chissell

Remember, that when you have a desire, then you have the means to achieve it.
In fact, here’s an exciting realization: Your idea about what you want comes after the Universe has made it possible.
