Do What You Can To Spread Good

If your heart aches for those affected by many of the natural disasters going on all around the world, (I know mine does), then take inspired action this week + help in whatever way you can.

Even when you think there’s not much you can do, remember to simply:

SPREAD GOOD. Every little bit helps.

How To Have Everything Fall Into Place

Have you noticed, sometimes, that the harder you work, the tougher life often feels? (While others seem to float magically through life?)

Have you noticed that the more you push, make giant to-do lists + tell yourself you need to do everything at once, the more exhausted you feel?

Have you gotten so used to doing things this way, that you’ve even forgotten what brings you joy?

I know, because I operated like this for YEARS.

Yep. I used to be that actress who would never leave town (FOMO), was constantly working on improving my skills + definitely put “fun” last on my long list of “things to achieve this week.”

And it’s not to say, I’m against, working hard + mastering your craft. I still put my time in, but I just do it from a different place these days. A more aligned place. A place where I’ve first made joy + fun a priority. (Isn’t that why we’re all doing this?)

What I’ve noticed is that when you get back to what brings you joy, things start showing up more easily. People offer more assistance. And opportunities come when you least expect them.

When you’re finding joy in your life, Universal forces begin to work in your favor.

So how do you get into a state of ease and flow in your life, and have everything fall into place?

Take time for what brings you joy. (Hint: It’s kinda why we’re all here.)

Why Needing The Job To Bring You Joy Never Works

Do you do this to yourself?

I know most actors go through some version of this conversation:

    I’ll feel happy when…

    I get a new agent.
I get auditions from the new agent.
I get more auditions from the new agent.
I get callbacks from the auditions.
    I book the job.
    I book a bigger job.
I book 3 big jobs in a row that don’t conflict with each other.
    I book a VO campaign.
    I book a 6 figure VO campaign.
And on and on and on.

It’s almost like scrolling on social media. No matter what you find, you are training your brain to search for more, because what you find is never quite enough.

And sometimes we get so busy searching and seeking and looking for something (or even someone) to complete us or make us feel whole or make us feel like we’ve accomplished something, that we fail to realize our happiness is right here in this moment…whether we get the agent, the job, the bigger job, the campaign or not.

Yep. Right here in this moment, is not only where your joy lies, it is also where your true power lies.

unnamedMost rarely align with their true power because it seems illogical to them that there is power in relaxing, in letting go, or in love or joy or bliss. – Abraham-Hicks

Most believe in efforting their way through. But when things aren’t showing up, and you’re feeling bad about it in any way, it’s always a reminder to (more…)

How Successful People Start Their Day

After researching the morning rituals of some of the most successful creative people in the world, I discovered that there was a common thread.

Although each person’s process was a bit different, it was interesting to learn that people like Oprah and Tony Robbins, didn’t begin their day reacting to the requests of others.

(And we can only imagine how long that request list might be on a daily basis.)

Instead, they tuned inward, first.  They filled their own cup before filling anyone else’s.

45 Tips To Inspire, Uplift + Empower Actors

My wish for you is that, in this moment. you realize you have so much to celebrate.

Today, I am celebrating the sacred space we share together as actors on this journey.

Today I am looking back + celebrating the past year of Actor Inspiration.

It has been so rewarding knowing that whether I am feeling up or down, whether I booked the latest job or haven’t had an audition in weeks, I can share my heart, mind + soul with you here and it helps you on your journey.

In fact, one of my favorite comments to read after a blog post from an actor is, “This is exactly what I needed to hear today. I felt like you were talking directly to me.”

And in many ways, I am.  Doing this work each week has helped me to feel a deep connection to those on a creative path – heart, mind + soul.

Below is a visual review of what we’ve uncovered together this past year.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  It’s fun to play for a living, that’s for sure…but I had no idea how much this work of helping + inspiring other actors along the way, would end up helping + inspiring me.

Here’s to a year worth celebrating.

Feel free to leave a comment below + let me know which graphic speaks to you the most today.

    Love + Gratitude,
    Wendy

Losing A Loved One, Feeling The Loss + Finding The Wisdom…A Personal Story.

On this very day, December 12th, 19 years ago in 1997, my father passed away laying in hospice in the family room of my childhood home, the only home I ever lived in before moving to Los Angeles.

He died 3 years after I moved away.  He was 77 years old, had me when he was 50, and was my biggest supporter, my biggest fan and my biggest cheerleader.

My father never met the man whom I would one day marry.  I never got to do the father-daughter dance with him at my wedding.  And he never got to meet or hold either of his grandsons, who he would have adored.

It also hits me in smaller moments.  Like ones I’ve had this month, when I didn’t get to call him and tell him that I’m guest-starring, playing a pilot, on Grey’s Anatomy (he was a pilot in WWII)  or that I booked a recurring role on a new Netflix comedy series and will be shooting 3 episodes before mid-January.

I know he would have been proud.   He always encouraged me to “keep going.”

But his spirit has lived on within me every single day of my life. Guiding me, nudging me, quietly whispering to me to “keep going” despite setbacks, to get up when I have fallen and to keep shining my light, even on the cloudiest of days.

    Upgrading Your Environment (And Deservability)

I love my page-a-day flip calendar by Louise Hay.

I keep it on my desk + am often inspired daily by her wise words.

Here is her beautiful affirmation for today, as you begin your week:

    -31
Can you say that to yourself + mean it?  “I now deserve love, romance + joy – and all the good that Life has to offer me.”

Do you feel that way, deep down in your soul? I hope so.

Lately, I’ve been buying myself fresh flowers for my office every week.

It was something I said I would do “one day,” when I was successful. (more…)

Getting Back Up With Grace + Gratitude: What I Learned From My Day With Oprah + Kerry Washington

I just got back from an amazing day with Oprah + Kerry Washington.

No, we weren’t all sipping Chai Tea lattes at Oprah’s home. (Though you never know when that could happen!)

I went to a live taping of Super Soul Sunday at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

But first, let me back track a bit, in hopes of inspiring you.

About two weeks ago, I had a week without one single audition.  Nothing, nada, zilch.

Not having what you want in any given moment is such an excellent teacher, isn’t it?

Instead of falling into fear + worry, I relaxed about it all + practiced gratitude for what was already in my life.

Guess what happened?  I got three awesome auditions the very next week – great roles in a pilot, a feature film and a TV drama.

How To Handle Times Of Uncertainty

When you’re auditioning + booking, you feel on top of the world, and when you’re not, it can sometimes be hard to get up in the morning or even know what to do with your day.  I get it.  I’ve been there.  It’s frustrating, to say the least.

But guess what? As actors, more often than not, there’s going to be times when it feels like “nothing is going on” + things feel uncertain.

The good news?  Those times can also change on a dime.

So, instead of filling the void with doubts, what if you began to actually love the void?

The late, great Wayne Dyer really explains it best…
